UBP Open Books

University of Buckingham Press (UBP), as part of its continued expansion, has recently launched a new imprint to enable the publishing of open access monographs.

Type of Open Access

Gold Open Access: immediate and open online access to published content

Under a CC-BY-NC licence:

  • CC: Creative Commons - Anyone may download and share your work

  • BY: By Attribution - You must always be credited as the author

  • NC: Non-Commercial - The open access version may not be sold or used commercially

Print copies will be available separately for sale to the public

Open Access Distribution

Open Access monographs will be published on UBP’s open access book platform with each chapter available to read online or to download as a PDF to read.  The content is also globally distributed to all relevant indexes and repositories such as DOAB, Google Scholar, ProQuest, EBSCO Discovery Service and OAPEN as well as archived with Portico, CLOCKKS and LOCKSS.

Usage reports are also available on request to give an insight as to how the author’s content is being used around the world.

Book Processing Charge (BPC)

Gold open access is available for authored research monographs for a book processing charge of £7,500-£9,000, depending on length, payable when you submit your typescript.

Chapter Processing Charge (CPC)

To have an individual chapter published within a gold open access multi-author book, a chapter processing charge of £1,250-£1,500, depending on the number of chapters in the book, is payable.

Editorial Standards

All chapters will be subject to double-blind peer review before acceptance. Should, following review and revisions, a chapter not be considered to have reached the required standard for publication, the author will be informed and any BPC fee already paid will be refunded. The book will also go through two rounds of proofreading ahead of publication and the author will be provided with a final text PDF ahead of publication.

Using third-party material in an open access publication

The author may use third-party material as long as they have cleared permission to do so. They will need to mark this content clearly and state the terms under which it has been made available. This is to prevent anyone from reusing it without seeking the permission of the original copyright holder. If they are unable to clear permission to use the material within an open access format, it should be removed from the submitted text.

Subjects Covered

UBP is happy to consider any open access monograph proposal from an author, though for reference it’s core subjects for publication are:

  • Education

  • Business and Economics

  • Cybersecurity

  • Medicine

  • Humanities

  • Social Sciences

How to Submit Work

When authors submit work they should make clear in their proposal that they wish it to be considered for gold open access publication as  we as providing brief details about their source of funding if applicable.

Proposals should include:

  • Title

  • Details of Author, including any previous works published if applicable

  • Short synopsis of work, including its aims, scope and approach
